About the DFSSM Sound Archive

Welcome! This site is intended as an educational resource for students, faculty, and alumni of the HUC-JIR Debbie Friedman School of Sacred Music. We hope you find it to be an invaluable source for discovering new music, rediscovering some great classics, and get to know the future cantors of the 21st century.

Here you will find an archive of practica and recitals delivered by the student body for as far back as we can make available. If you have your own recorded practicum that does not appear on this site, please send it for its approval and addition to our site.

We provide you with information about each practicum, the student cantor(s) who executed each, the titles, composers, and publishers of each work sung, and the ability to listen through our website to the songs and prayers themselves.

You will not be able to download any of the sound files here on this site. As one can imagine, the copyright issues associated with allowing this material to be downloaded are great. But rest assured, we have gone through great lengths to ensure that our online presentation of these materials are being done so legally and with every intention to protect the rights of the composers and performers.

A host of links will be available so that you might more easily purchase the sheet music to these selections should you be inspired to perform these works yourself.

If you would like your sound files to be included from your programs, you will need to have signed this release form from the DFSSM. If you’d like to sign the document online, SignNow is a convenient and free way to sign this and other documents with your computer or mobile device. Be sure to return the form to Dr. Bruce Ruben to complete the process.
